July 7th...

July 7th... from Little Rock, Arkansas... finished my check-up today. It is nice to be able to go through Stage Six on the stress test... which I can do because I ride the bike occasionally. For me, Life's a Bike... it would be nice if it were part of more people's lives.

While I was on the treadmill and getting ready for the Echo-cardiogram, one of the nurses started talking about needing to get back into shape... in the five years she has been working as a cardiac ultrasound technologist, she has gotten married, and put on 60 pounds... and after she heard me tell Barry's story about losing about that amount because he took up cycling... she bought in! Thank you for your story Barry... and anyone reading this that hasn't read Barry's profile... do!

We had another practice ride last Sunday. We had eight riders and did a loop that included several good climbs around the Brock Monument and forty kilometers. We had a safety meeting following, and Lynnda made a great breakfast for us. It was great to have part of the group there... we have only one week before we set out on the ride. We will have to tighten up the riding rules, and be better at ensuring we ride as a team... using the safest riding techniques.

Unfortunately we didn't take any pictures last Sunday... but we will be posting pictures here throughout the ride... starting with the Sunday morning awarding of a lot of donations to the cardiac investigation unit at the new hospital in St. Catharines. Can't wait, and I assure you we will be pulling out all stops to get the number up into the ... I will leave it at that, but be assured, we will be proud of all the donors and the riders who pulled the load.

OUR SPONSORS

Take it to Heart is a committee comprised of members of the Rotary Club of St. Catharines South, The May Court Club of St. Catharines and PerformanceCars.  This committee raises funds for the cardiac cathterization lab, also referred to as the heart investigation unit, at the Niagara Health Care Complex presently under construction.    Back in December of 2010, Ian Forbes and Barry Millward planned to cycle around the lake this summer for fun.   Upon encouragement from family and friends, they decided to join forces with Take it to Heart, committed to help raise funds for the heart investigation unit, formed an awesome committee and call the event the TOUR DU LAC.

Our proud sponsors are:  Affordable Roofing, Trek, TD Waterhouse, BikeFit, Casa Mia Ristorante, Enbridge, John Boldt Builders Ltd., Morgan Diltz & Toppari, Lawyers, Spreepro Imaging, Edge Hair Design, State Farm Gord Tessier Insurance Agency Ltd., Water Superstore, CAA Niagara and Revo H2O

Training ride July 3rd

We had our first training ride on Sunday July 3rd. We did a nice ride with a couple of hills and lots of Niagara Scenery.  Ian and Mary Forbes hosted the group, and we had a great first meet. We will do it again on July the 10th with more of the riders.   Bruce and Lynnda Ross will host.   We will ride the Niagara River and Queenston areas.
